Although dancehall Reggae artist are characterized as lyrically tough, unleashing explicit lyrics loaded with inflated sexual boastings, Nye has arrived on the music scene like a breath of fresh air.
Although Born in Kingston Jamaica, Nye has resided in New York most of here life. She began her singing career performing at various clubs and talent shows throughout the city. She soon found work in the studios when she recorded with Rayvon on his album “ My Bad Albums”. Nye also recorded a duet with platinum reggae superstar, Shaggy.
Following her instincts and realizing her crossover abilities she followed the trend and began to utilize her ability to function as a melodic chameleon. Nye began to diversify her artistic efforts. Her flair for versatility earned her collaborations with the world-renowned Hip-Hop group” The Roots”. Nye followed her collaboration with well-known artist and executive Sean “P. Diddy” Combs on his album “ P.Diddy and the Family, The Saga Continues”. It was these accolades that brought her to the attention of Blue Mountain/Judgement Records, after a brief stint with Big Yard/MCA. Her first single, "Hot All Night", is due to hit the Caribbean radio circuit in October. Her Debut album entitled “Hot All Night” will showcase her skills both as a singer and DJ.
Her debut album, Hot All Night, was largely self-written, and was co-produced by Rod Millwood & Joe “ The Butcher” Nicolo. This album is a fusion of melodic textures complete with hip-hop and soul rhythms. Tina Turner and former backup singer to Bob Marley, Marcia Griffith are just a couple of the artist that Nye draws inspiration from.
With a voice that is rough and ready yet is delivered with conviction and compassion, Nye is capable of conveying heartache and happiness throughout her soulful testimonies. Her style reflects the great traditions of multi-talented artists like Tina Turner, Jill Scott and Eryka Badu.
More than a vocalist, Nye is poised to display the myriad of talents that she possesses. The world has yet to see Nye in her full splendor but it is only moments before they become witness to it. Hot All Night due to be released in November on Blue Mountain/Judgement Records.
