| It's real
music, I know who I am and what I am," said a mild
mannered Myers when asked how he describes his music.
Born Lionel Clark, L likes to keep it short. Then again,
it is typical of this man of few words when caught out
of the studio. This Philadelphia - bred rapper keeps
all of his words for the music where he is able to flawlessly
shape his passion and experiences through his lyrics
with astounding clarity. His high definition style of
rap is loaded with a myriad of musical and vocal styles
that are to please the masses. What it lacks is profanity!
"I am a lyricist. If I can't find a better word
to express myself, I've failed."
L. Myers is cognizant of the lineage of Philadelphia rappers to grace the world stage.
He is poised to make all the right moves as he emerges into one of the most talented
rappers to come out of the city of brotherly love. Myers, however sites, LL Cool J,
Nas, Tupac and Snoop Dogg as some of his musical influences. "I like their
versatility and longevity in the game". I admire all of them because they take chances,
being themselves despite what the industry may dictate at that time." As much as he
looks up to them, Myers wants everyone to know that it is his goal to surpass his
idols as the next big thing.
L. Myers reflects on his inner-city experience as
a young man growing up on the dark side of town, where
the lights did not flicker with the same intensity
as Center City. He draws material from the many trials
and tribulations that he and many other youth have
to undergo every day.His depiction creates another
perspective on what happens in today's society. Music
became his escape from the norm. "I would observe
all that was going on around me and make observations
with a melodic twist! Music gave me the space to express
myself. It gave my imagination elbow room."
As he transcends from the corner freestyles, to the studio, to appearances at various
clubs, talent shows and schools throughout the Tri State area, L reminds us of one
thing, "The world is a stage and that's where I do my best work."
